Grade eight is a big year for Kenyan students. They will take a special test at the end of the year called the The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education. The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) is a certificate that will be awarded to students after taking the test to prove what they have learned over the past eight grades.
The exam covers a variety of subjects including Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Social Studies, Science, and Religious Education (Christian/Islamic/Hindu). It usually takes three days to complete and usually takes place in late October/early November, but may be moved later due to the coronavirus.
This exam will also dictate where they are allowed to go to high school in Kenya and if they will receive any special scholarships from the government. If they do well, they will be placed in a well-known school. If they do not do well, they will be placed in a less well-known school. They could also potentially be given a full scholarship that the government will provide.
This is obviously a lot of stress on these students. Most schools will have all of their grade eight students move to the school where they will study, eat, and sleep for the month before the exam. Not only does this provide the utmost support to these students, but gives them a safe and focused environment for most success.
Acacia of Hope has eight children who are currently studying for the KCPE exam. Please join us in praying for them by name:
