In Africa, one of the leading causes of illness and death is the consumption of contaminated water. To combat this crisis, two main solutions are widely used: drilling deep wells and implementing water filtration systems. In densely populated urban areas like Kibera Slum in Nairobi, Kenya, deep wells are often not feasible due to infrastructure limitations and space constraints. For these communities, water filtration systems offer the most practical and immediate solution.

At Acacia of Hope, we have been dedicated to addressing this need by distributing family-sized water filters, ensuring that households have reliable access to clean water for up to ten years. However, clean water access shouldn’t stop at the household level — schools are a vital part of this equation.

Last year, in partnership with Enhearten, we proudly installed the first school-sized UZima water filter in a school in Kibera Slum. This initiative has been nothing short of transformative. For a one-time investment of approximately $1,500, the school now has clean water for drinking, cooking, and sanitation — all for the next decade.

We’ve seen firsthand how access to safe water improves student health, attendance, and overall learning conditions. Yet, countless schools across Kibera and other urban settlements still lack this basic necessity. The need is great, but so is the opportunity to create lasting change.

Our goal is to expand this program and bring clean water to many more schools. By partnering with local leaders, organizations, and generous supporters, we can equip entire learning communities with life-saving access to clean water. Every school filter installed means hundreds of children are safeguarded from waterborne illnesses and are given a better chance at a healthy, productive education.

We are committed to growing this mission — one school at a time. Will you join us in bringing hope, health, and clean water to more schools in need?
