Imagine that you live in a slum in a ten-by-ten feet room made up of wood and scrap metal. This space is your kitchen, bedroom, and entertaining room all in one. This room, or home of yours, has no electricity, or running water. Not even a sink or toilet. During the dry season, your home can get over 100 degrees for days and in the rainy season your rusty metal roof leaks. You take a large jug and walk the winding paths for a mile to pay for water that comes from a spout. This water has been cross contaminated with sewage pipes that run under the slum. It is filled with deadly bacteria, perhaps even typhoid, that you pray will die when you boil it. You walk the 40-pound jug back to your home and heat it on top of the fire you made inside. It cools and you give your child a cup of water, praying that he or she does not get sick. “If only,” you say. “If only I could give you more.”
The reality is that 40% of Africans do not have access to clean drinking water and is one of the main causes of death in Africa (WorldBank). Imagine that these slum children work hard to break generational poverty by attending school, but fear death due to drinking unclean water. Through partnership with Enhearten Unseen Leaders, we have been able to bring life-saving and life-changing effects on an entire school through the purchase of a water tank and a commercial water filter. A water tank allows a school to collect water, either by rain or the contaminated sewage pipes, and filter the water so it is clean and pure.
Partnership brings impact and together, we are making impact!
